Food noise is the near-constant background chatter about eating that many people describe before a GLP-1 and say goes quiet on one. No prescribing information uses the term; the closest label item is decreased appetite, listed for Mounjaro at 5-11%. Score food noise 1-5 every day, note the dose and days since your shot, and compare weeks so you can see whether it creeps back before shot day or after a step-up.

## Food noise: what it is and why it is not on the label

Food noise is the phrase people reach for when they try to describe the mental part of hunger. Not the stomach growl, but the loop: planning the next meal while eating this one, thinking about the snack drawer at 3 pm, negotiating with yourself in the evening. Many people who start semaglutide (Ozempic, Wegovy) or tirzepatide (Mounjaro, Zepbound) say the loop simply stops, and that this is the change they notice before the scale moves.

It is not a clinical term. No GLP-1 prescribing information mentions food noise, and there is no trial percentage to quote. The nearest thing on a label is "decreased appetite", which Mounjaro's label lists in 5%, 10% and 11% of patients at 5, 10 and 15 mg versus 1% on placebo. The weight-management labels (Wegovy, Zepbound, Saxenda) do not tabulate it, since eating less is the point of those trials. So this page cannot tell you how common food noise is or how much it drops. It can tell you how to measure your own.

That is why Peppy tracks it as a scored side effect rather than a yes/no. A number every day is what turns "it feels quieter" into a chart. Compounded [Compounded Semaglutide](https://peppytracker.com/compounds/semaglutide-compounded/) and [Compounded Tirzepatide](https://peppytracker.com/compounds/tirzepatide-compounded/) users have the same measurement problem and the same solution.

## When it tends to change

Because there is no label data, everything here is what people report, and you should read it as hypotheses to test against your own log.

**Early on.** Many people say food noise drops within the first week or two, sometimes on the starting dose, before any weight change. Others say nothing happens until a step-up. Wegovy's schedule moves every four weeks (0.25 mg, 0.5 mg, 1 mg, 1.7 mg, 2.4 mg); Zepbound's starts at 2.5 mg for four weeks and rises in 2.5 mg increments after at least four weeks on a dose. Each step is a natural place to look for a change.

**Late in the week.** A common report from weekly-shot users is that food noise creeps back on days five to seven and quiets again after the next shot. Zepbound's label puts the elimination half-life at roughly five to six days, which makes the anecdote plausible without proving it. If it is true for you, the pattern will show in a month of daily scores lined up with shot days. The [half-life guide](https://peppytracker.com/guides/how-long-does-semaglutide-stay-in-your-system/) explains what "active in your system" means and does not mean.

**Around missed or late shots.** Many people notice food noise as the first sign a shot was late. A log with the shot day next to it makes that visible; see [what to do about a missed GLP-1 dose](https://peppytracker.com/guides/missed-glp-1-dose/) for the label rules.

## What is worth logging

- **A 1-5 score, same time each day.** Decide your anchors before you start. For most people 1 is "did not think about food unless I was eating" and 5 is "could not stop thinking about it". Evening is a good time to score, because that is when it tends to be loudest.
- **Days since your last shot.** This is the axis the late-week pattern lives on. Log the shot in the same app and the offset takes care of itself.
- **The dose you are on.** A quiet week at 1 mg and a quiet week at 2.4 mg are different findings.
- **Appetite control and craving control as feelings.** These are separate 1-5 scales in Peppy, on by default. Food noise can be loud while appetite is low; scoring both keeps them apart.
- **Weight, weekly at least.** The food-noise score is the leading indicator; weight is the lagging one. See the [Apple Health weight guide](https://peppytracker.com/guides/glp-1-weight-tracker-apple-health/).

## When to contact your prescriber

Food noise itself has no red flag on any label. The reasons to raise it are practical, not urgent.

- **It never quietened, or came back and stayed.** That is useful information for a dose conversation, and a chart is more persuasive than "I think it's louder".
- **The opposite problem.** If appetite is so suppressed that you are not eating or drinking enough, the labels' dehydration warning applies: nausea, vomiting or diarrhea leading to dehydration has been linked to acute kidney injury. Check the [suppressed appetite](https://peppytracker.com/side-effects/suppressed-appetite/) page.
- **Any of the general GLP-1 red flags.** Persistent or severe abdominal pain, sometimes radiating to the back, is the pancreatitis language on every GLP-1 label and is a same-day call.

## How to do this in Peppy

1. **Check that food noise is on.** It is one of Peppy's five GLP-1 defaults. If not, go to Settings ▸ Tracking and toggle Food noise. Appetite control and Craving control are on by default in the feelings list on the same screen.
2. **Score it in the daily check-in.** Tap the check-in row on the Today tab. Slide food noise from 1 to 5, then do appetite control and craving control. Add weight if it is a weigh-in day; it writes to Apple Health.
3. **Log your shot in the same app.** Tap the dose on the Today tab, pick the site on the body map, save. That gives every check-in a shot-day offset.
4. **Read the weekly heat-map in Progress (Pro).** Food noise is a row of weekly cells with your step-ups marked on the same timeline. Look at whether the row lightens after each marker, and whether the feelings charts for appetite control move with it. The free tier shows this blurred.
5. **Use the Calendar for the day-of-week pattern.** Flip through the week strip and compare check-ins on days one and two after a shot with days six and seven. If food noise is louder late in the week, you will see it here first.
6. **Set a check-in reminder (Pro).** Settings ▸ Reminders. A gap in the log is the one thing that makes the late-week pattern impossible to see.

## Frequently asked

### What is food noise on GLP-1s?

Food noise is the informal name for intrusive, repetitive thoughts about food: what to eat next, what is in the cupboard, whether you are hungry. Many people on semaglutide or tirzepatide report it drops sharply. It is a patient-reported experience, not a diagnosis, and it does not appear on any GLP-1 label.

### Does food noise come back before your next shot?

Many people report that food noise returns on days five to seven of a weekly cycle and quiets again after the shot. That is anecdote, not label data. Logging a 1-5 score every day for a month next to your shot days is the only way to know whether it is true for you.

### Is food noise the same as appetite suppression?

No. Appetite suppression is not wanting to eat. Food noise is thinking about food whether or not you are hungry. Peppy tracks them separately: food noise and suppressed appetite are side effects scored 1-5, and appetite control and craving control are feelings scored 1-5.

### Which GLP-1 label mentions decreased appetite?

Mounjaro's label lists decreased appetite in 5%, 10% and 11% of patients at 5, 10 and 15 mg versus 1% on placebo. The Wegovy, Zepbound and Saxenda labels for weight management do not tabulate it separately, because reduced appetite is the intended effect in those trials.

### How do I track food noise?

Score it 1-5 at the same time each day, with 1 meaning it is quiet and 5 meaning it is constant. Log the day relative to your shot and the dose you are on. In Peppy, food noise is a default GLP-1 side effect in the daily check-in and appears as a weekly heat-map in Progress (Pro).
